During August, the OnTrack team along with some of our Champions took part in the two-day LivingWorks Training for Trainers (T4T) programme.
The LivingWorks Training for Trainers (T4T) programme is an intensive two-day course designed to equip participants with the skills and confidence to deliver the internationally recognised SafeTALK suicide prevention training (what we call OnTrack to Action).
The T4T programme is a cornerstone of LivingWorks’ approach to community capacity building. Rather than relying solely on external facilitators, it empowers local Champions and other individuals to become trainers themselves, creating a ripple effect of knowledge and support.
Becoming SafeTALK Presenters
Throughout the two days, the OnTrack team learned how to present the LivingWorks SafeTALK workshop — a half-day programme that teaches participants to recognise when someone may be having thoughts of suicide and connect them to further help. SafeTALK focuses on building practical skills and confidence, enabling everyday people to have life-saving conversations.
The training combined presentation practice, group facilitation techniques, and in-depth understanding of SafeTALK’s structure and philosophy. By the end of the course, our team and Champions were assessed and approved as trainee presenters, ready to deliver SafeTALK workshops across racing communities in New Zealand.
