The racing industry’s true strength is its people.

Welcome to OnTrack. We are a charity established to support everyone working and volunteering in our racing community. Together we are working to improve mental health and prevent suicide.

Let’s redefine what it means to be in racing by making the wellbeing of our people at the centre of what we do.

Together, we can drive real change.

OnTrack has your back.

We’re working together to develop mental health and suicide prevention programmes, workshops, and support for everyone who works in the racing community. We are with you, for you.

Proudly funded by

3 codes. One goal.

OnTrack is backed by our racing codes to deliver mental wellbeing and suicide preventions to everyone working in our industry. We’re in this together and here to support everyone across the racing community.

Are you ready to help shape the future?

Racing is a part of who we are, it’s a vibrant industry filled with dedicated people, but we also face tough challenges. We have the strength and together, we can take on these challenges. We can ALL make a difference.

“I love that steps are finally being made to help our people in the racing industry.”

WELLBEING SURVEY RESPONDENT

For our people, by our people

New Zealand’s racing community is driven by passionate and talented people who deeply care about animals, racing, and our way of life. With a strong foundation of camaraderie and resilience, we can take collective action to create a supportive culture in racing. Together we are working to improve mental health, prevent suicide and foster an environment where everyone thrives, both at work and in life.

Driving change, together

Over the past year, OnTrack has conducted in-depth research to gain a thorough understanding of the New Zealand racing industry. By focusing on the people involved in Thoroughbred, Harness, and Greyhound racing, we have identified the strengths, challenges, and opportunities to move us forward together.

Our findings highlighted issues like depression, suicidality, workplace bullying, and overwork. By addressing these challenges, we aim to work with the industry to create a supportive and thriving environment for everyone in the racing community.

Innovative programmes
and workshops

OnTrack begins at the grassroots of our industry, encouraging everyone to seek, offer, and accept help. Our programmes are built around a peer support model and include workshops to build mental health knowledge and understand how we can all play a part in preventing suicide.

By coming together and building our strength in racing, we create a supportive community that uplifts each other, fosters resilience, and paves the way for a healthier, more united future.

Together, we can overcome challenges, celebrate victories, and make a lasting difference to the well-being of our racing family.

“Our vision is to ultimately build a culture where it’s fine to have a conversation about not feeling great mentally. This initiative is for our industry, by our industry.”

Bruce Sharrock, CEO, NZ Thoroughbred Racing
